  • FAQ

  • What are the admission requirements for the Ph.D. and MS.c. programs at the Chemical Engineering Department of Laval University?
  • The admission requirements are: filling an application form (available in the ulaval website), BS.c. and M.Sc. diplomas, B.Sc. and M.Sc. transcripts, CV, statement of purpose, acceptance letter from a professor in the Laval university, recommendations from your previous supervisors, list of your publications (if applicable), and your birth certificate.

  • Are there any language proficiency certificate requirements?
  • If you have been accepted by a professor for Ph.D., there is no need to provide a language proficiency certificate. For M.Sc., a minimum proficiency in french is required (please consult ulaval website).

  • I live in a foreign country. What procedure should I follow to come to your department at Laval University for a graduate program?
  • You should firstly contact the professor and he/she might offer you an acceptance. You can then apply to the university. After receiving the university admission, you can proceed for CAQ and visa.

  • How much money do you think a graduate student needs to have to be able to live in Quebec city for each year?
  • $18,000 CAD would be enough for a single student, even though some graduate students find it possible to live with 15,000 CAD/year. Quebec is not an expensive city! If you live in the dormitory its cost is approximately 400$/month.

  • What are the deadlines for the grad school applications?
  • Winter: September 15 , Summer: January 15, and Fall: February 1.

  • What are the tuition fees for international Ph.D. students?
  • All international students who enrol in a regular doctoral program at Université Laval will be eligible to benefit from the same tuition fees as Québec students. Roughly you will have to pay only ~ $4,000 per year.

  • Are there any scholarships given to new graduate students?
  • Université Laval provides a $2,000 admission scholarship to all Canadian or international students who register for the first time in a full-time doctoral program in summer, fall, or winter. Consult our department website for our department partial scholarships.

  • Where can I find more information about how to become admitted to Laval University?
  • You can consult Future Students Admission.

  • What are the internal deadlines for applying for scholarships?
  • You can find some of the internal deadlines here.
